TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOPS
WOULD YOU LIKE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR TEACHING AND SUPERVISION OF JUNIOR STAFF and TRAINEES?
Clinicians are required to teach, supervise trainees and care for patients, all at the same time. Whilst teaching and supervising can be rewarding and is central to ensuring the strength of the future medical profession, those who are often responsible, have frequently had little formal training or support on how to do this.
These Teacher Training Workshops are aimed at Fellows, Diplomates, trainees, registrars, visiting medical officers, consultants and supervisors who would like to build on their current teaching knowledge and practice. Clinicians who have extensive experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate doctors, but who have had little or no formal teaching instruction, should find the workshop useful. It is open to all specialist disciplines.
Workshop Funding available
RANZCOG has secured funding through the Rural Advanced Specialist Trainee Support (RASTS) Program, an initiative of the Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing, to run full day interactive teaching workshops, to regional and rural training hospitals around Australia during 2007.
Free teaching workshops have already been booked for the following locations during 2007. Others will be added as soon as dates have been secured.

The aim of these workshops is to:
Build confidence in teaching adults
Incorporate principles about teaching and learning into clinical teaching
Improve teaching by recognising the best opportunities to teach
Understand the meaning of assessment and appraisal for trainees
Give effective feedback
Discuss clinical teaching difficulties
Feel more confident in recognising junior doctors with difficulties
Clinical scenarios, small group teaching techniques, discussion and video presentations are used throughout the day.
This project is being conducted in collaboration with the highly successful “Teaching on the Run” program based at the Medical Education Centre at the University of Western Australia (UWA).
