Assessment of Trainee Competence

Competence Assessment

As part of the training curriculum trainees must be assessed as competent to perform core O&G surgical procedures. The assessment process is conducted under the auspices of the Education & Assessment Committee and is administered through the Assessment Services section of the College.

Assessment Process

The process requires trainees who entered the RANZCOG training program on or after 1 December 2003 to be certified as competent to perform certain obstetric- and gynaecology-based surgical procedures prior to proceeding to Year 3 and Year 6 of their training.

All RANZCOG Fellows are able to act as an assessor for a trainee on any of the required procedures. The basic procedure of Normal Vaginal Delivery can, however, be assessed by a Senior Midwife or their nominee.

Information

Further information regarding this assessment process can be found in the Training Program Handbook.

Please note that a separate assessment form must be used each time a trainee is assessed on any individual procedure.
