Subspeciality Committees

Overview

Each of the five RANZCOG subspecialties has its own committee. The ‘umbrella’ Subspecialty Committee is a committee of the RANZCOG Council which comprises the Chairs of each subspecialty committee, a specialist appointed by Council, a Chairperson (usually a senior office-bearer of RANZCOG), and a Subspecialty trainee representative.

Through the various committees for each subspecialty, the Subspecialty Committee is responsible for:

  • the ongoing development, co-ordination and maintenance of the College’s subspecialty training programs, the assessment of the trainees enrolled in those programs and approval of training supervisors;
  • recommendation to Council, in conjuction with the College Examination Committee, on matters relating to the College assessment process, including the Research Project, Written and Oral Examinations and the In-hospital Clinical Ultrasound Examinations;
  • selection of subspecialty trainees;
  • recommendation to Council of new training posts and the re-accreditation of existing training posts;
  • reporting to the Training and Accreditation Committee of all matters pertaining to subspecialty training;
  • recommendation to Council through the Continuing Professional Development Committee on matters pertaining to recertification;
  • appointment of working groups to undertake specific developmental and planning tasks relating to training and accreditation;
  • and any other matters relating to the training programs as may be directed by Council from time to time.

Subspecialty Committees report through the Subspecialty Committee to the Training and Accreditation Committee, the Examination Committee, Council, and other Committees of Council as necessary. Subspecialty Committees usually meet three times per year, by teleconference or face-to-face meetings. Meetings tend to be scheduled for the weeks preceding Council. Council usually meets in March, July and November.
