Trainees' Statement of Understanding

With the approval of the RANZCOG Trainees’ Subcommittee, the College has developed a Statement of Understanding document for all ITP, Elective and Subspecialty trainees. The Statement clearly outlines trainees’ rights and responsibilities, and is signed not only by the trainee, but by their Training Supervisor and the relevant TA/Subspecialty Committee Chair. This document is being sent to all trainees for 2008.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

As from November 2007, the College has an RPL policy for specific categories of trainees who may be eligible to apply to have some previous training recognised towards the specialist training program.  RPL is available to trainees who have been selected for the ITP and have obtained an accredited first-year post from 2008 onwards.  For a limited period (November 2007 – November 2008) trainees who are already in the specialist training program are also eligible to apply for RPL, provided they fit one of the 4 specified categories.  For the RPL policy, click on the document below.

Integrated Training Program (ITP)

The four-year Integrated Training Program, includes the following:

  • Rotation through a minimum of three different hospitals, with at least 12 months in a tertiary hospital and 6 months in a rural hospital
  • Logged clinical work in obstetrics and gynaecology resulting in attainment of prescribed competency levels in specified procedures
  • Utilising the resources of the FLP or DEP (as appropriate)
  • Experience in gynaecological oncology
  • Assessment through various methods (both formative and summative)

Please refer to the Training Program Handbook for complete details on the Integrated Training Program.

Elective Training Program

The Elective Program (EP) follows the ITP. It comprises the final two years of the FRANZCOG Training Program. The content of the EP is not prescribed by the College. Trainees entering the EP are required to submit a plan for the two-year program which is designed to meet their own educational needs. Most trainees complete the ITP prior to beginning the EP, but it is possible to undertake one or two years of the EP before passing the RANZCOG Examination. Trainees must complete a minimum of two years ITP training before they can apply for the Elective Program.

Please refer to the Training Program Handbook for complete details on the Elective Training Program.
