How do I apply for a training position?

Prospective trainees who have secured an appointment of six or twelve months in a hospital accredited to train GPs in the DRANZCOG/DRANZCOG Advanced qualifications must submit the relevant application form. These forms are only available from the website and should be submitted four weeks prior to commencing training. Application forms should be submitted to College House along with four passport photographs, a certified copy of your primary medical degree or AMC certificate, and the appropriate fee. Once the registration process is completed, trainees will receive their logbook in the mail.

Can previous training be approved towards the DRANZCOG/DRANZCOG Advanced?

All training must be prospectively approved. In exceptional circumstances it may be possible to receive credit for previous training but this would need to be considered by the Chair of the relevant State Reference Committee (SRC).

Can I take leave or train part-time?

Trainees can take up to two weeks of annual leave during the six months of Diploma training, subject to arrangement with their hospital. Part-time training for the DRANZCOG can be arranged but it requires prospective approval by the Joint Consultative Committee (JCCO) following recommendation by the appropriate SRC. Part-time training should not be less than half-time training and the duration of the training period must be extended appropriately. Part-time training for the DRANZCOG Advanced can be arranged in the same way. Note that you cannot take longer than two years to complete DRANZCOG Advanced training.

Can I sit the exams without an approved logbook?

Candidates may sit the Written Examination even if their logbook has not yet been approved. However, the RANZCOG Examinations Officer must be notified of the logbook approval no later than 21 days after the date of the Written Examination. Logbook approval must be obtained prior to sitting the Oral Examination, unless exceptional circumstances apply.

When can I do the DRANZCOG Advanced training?

Trainees who have already satisfactorily completed six months of DRANZCOG training are eligible to undertake DRANZCOG Advanced training. Advanced trainees do not need to have passed the DRANZCOG Written and Oral Examinations prior to commencing their training.

DRANZOCG Advanced training involves six months of logged clinical work in addition to the six months of training required for the DRANZCOG. Training may be undertaken in a continuous 12-month block (six months of DRANZCOG followed immediately by six months of DRANZCOG Advanced training) or in two separate blocks, each of six months.

Where there is more than six months between DRANZCOG and DRANZCOG Advanced training, prospective trainees should submit the following documents along with their application for registration of training.

  • Curriculum vitae – including details of recent obstetric practice

  • DRANZCOG training logbook

  • Documentation of all deliveries done since obtaining the DRANZCOG

  • Evidence of completion of the CPD requirement in women’s reproductive health
