Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Elective Training)
Alice Springs Hospital
Start Date: January 2013
End Date: January 2014
Closing date of applications: October 2012
Alice Springs Hospital provides acute care for the population of central Australia. This region covers about 1000000 square km, and extends into South Australia, Western Australia and reaches the Queensland border. A large proportion of the population we care for comprises indigenous women. This group of women, and their babies, suffer a disproportionately high mortality and morbidity compared to the general population of Australia. Work experience in this region leads to a greater understanding of the reasons for this disparity, and offers an opportunity for great job satisfaction.
The region is known for its unique beauty. It is hot in summer and cold in winter, idyllic in autumn and spring. It is an experience to remember.
