What is the DRANZCOG/DRANZCOG Advanced?

DRANZCOG

This is a diploma qualification involving a six-month training program for general practitioners/residents who wish to provide shared ante and postnatal care with specialist obstetricians, GP obstetricians or a specialist hospital. Specifically, the aim of the DRANZCOG is to offer training to doctors who wish to:

Provide shared ante- and postnatal care with specialist obstetricians, GP obstetricians or a specialist hospital
Provide office gynaecology
Provide family planning
Manage the antenatal care of low to moderate risk patients
Perform normal deliveries and assisted deliveries
Perform basic gynaecological procedures

DRANZCOG Advanced

The Advanced Diploma (DRANZCOG Advanced) is a minimum 12-month training program for general practitioners/residents who would like additional training and experience in this area.
Specifically, the aim of the DRANZCOG Advanced is to offer extended training to doctors who wish to:

Provide all of the above listed DRANZCOG aims
Manage complicated labours when they arise
Perform LUSCS (Elective and Emergency) safely and confidently
Provide support for GP obstetricians when specialist obstetricians are unavailable
Perform laparotomies in emergency gynaecological situations
In special circumstances, be able to perform laparoscopies and/or colposcopies

A time-limited qualification

The DRANZCOG is a time-limited qualification issued for a period of three - five years in the first instance (adjusted to align with the period of the RACGP Quality Assurance and Continuing Professional Development Program and the ACRRM Professional Development Program). Recertification occurs every three years thereafter and is dependent on the accumulation of points over the three years for approved activities in the areas of Women’s Reproductive Health within the RACGP QA & CPD Program or the ACRRM PDP.

Requirements

Training for the DRANZCOG is for a minimum of six months and for the DRANZCOG Advanced a minimum of twelve months.
Those wishing to undertake the DRANZCOG / DRANZCOG Advanced must hold a primary degree in Medicine and Surgery issued by a medical school listed in the WHO Publication World Directory of Medical Schools and have completed or currently be in their second postgraduate year.

Conjoint Committee for the Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (CCDOG)

Both programs are overseen by the Conjoint Committee for the Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (CCDOG).This comprises an Executive, a Training Accreditation and Recertification (TAR) Subcommittee and an Education and Assessment (EA) Subcommittee. All three groups comprise representatives from RANZCOG, the Royal College of General Practitioners (RACGP), and the Australian College of Remote and Rural Medicine (ACRRM). The administration of the DRANZCOG and DRANZCOG Advanced training programs - including trainee registration and examinations – is the responsibility of the RANZCOG.
