Specialist obstetrician Locum Scheme

Locum Providers

All locums must be Fellows of RANZCOG. If you are an experienced obstetrician nearing retirement wishing to prolong your workforce attachment, an urban obstetrician or a newly elevated Fellow interested in the opportunity to experience the challenges and satisfaction of rural practice, you may be interested in providing locum relief under SOLS.

The Locum must provide:
  • evidence of professional qualifications and Fellowship of RANZCOG;
  • evidence of current professional registration and history of registration;
  • evidence of current level of medical indemnity insurance;
  • a written guarantee to maintain appropriate level of run-off cover following placements;
  • details of 2 recent professional referees from recent clinical practice work (including obstetricians, medical administrators or other healthcare professionals);
  • briefing on clinical issues on completion of the placement to ensure continuity of care for patients; and
  • completed evaluation form following the placement.

Indemnity Cover:

Locums are responsible for arranging and paying their own medical indemnity cover. They must provide evidence that it is sufficient for the length of placement and the type of work to be undertaken. The locum must provide appropriate level of run-off cover following placements. If the locum is providing SOLS locum relief at a public health service, their medical indemnity will be covered by the state based funding system .

If you would like to register as a provider of locum relief, please complete the form ( 36 KB). Alternatively, a form can be faxed, emailed or sent to you by the Project Manager.
