- verify appropriate locum medical indemnity cover;
- make initial contact with all referees to facilitate subsequent checking by the applicant who will be solely responsible for assessing the suitability of the locum for the placement; and
- organise travel.
The applicant is responsible for:
- a non-refundable administration fee of $650 (GST inclusive);
- undertaking further referee checking;
- the decision to employ the locum;
- facilitating the credentialing process on site;
- providing a preliminary briefing for the locum on clinical, professional and personal, and other issues prior to commencement of the placement; and

Indemnity Cover
Locums are responsible for arranging and paying their own medical indemnity cover. They must provide evidence that it is sufficient for the length of placement and the type of work to be undertaken. The locum must provide appropriate level of run-off cover following placements. If the locum is providing SOLS locum relief at a public health service, their medical indemnity will be covered by the state based funding system .
