The RANZCOG Research Foundation supports scientific and clinical research in women's health through research fellowships, scholarships and travel grants. More

Membership of the Research Foundation is open to all members of the RANZCOG and anyone with an interest in the aims and objectives of the Foundation. More

RANZCOG Research Foundation Scholarship Program

Each year, the RANZCOG Research Foundation offers a range of scholarships. A summary of these is provided below.

Eligibility, tenure and stipend vary with the individual scholarships as does the frequency with which they are available for application. Detailed information regarding all scholarships is available. More

Arthur Wilson Memorial Scholarship

Tenure & Stipend: $30,000 x 2 years ($60,000 in total)
Eligible Applicants: Graduates in medicine and science
Area of Research: Any aspect of obstetrics and gynaecology and related disciplines

Ella Macknight Memorial Scholarship

Tenure & Stipend: $25,000 x 2 years ($50,000 in total)
Eligible Applicants: Graduates in medicine and science
Area of Research: Any aspect of obstetrics and gynaecology and related disciplines

Fotheringham Research Fellowship

Tenure & Stipend: $25,000 x 2 years ($50,000 in total)
Eligible Applicants: Fellows of the College of less than five years standing or Members of the College seeking to qualify for Fellowship of the RANZCOG who are normally resident in Australia or New Zealand
Area of Research: Any aspect of obstetrics and gynaecology and related disciplines

Glyn White Research Fellowship

Tenure & Stipend: $30,000 x 2 years ($60,000 in total). The Fellowship is tenable only in Victoria and only at approved teaching hospitals.
Eligible Applicants: Graduates in medicine or science, who preferably have had some involvement in medical research in Australia and/or overseas. The applicant must be an Australian citizen.
Area of Research: Perinatal medicine. The Fellowship may not be used for any activity involved in or associated with embryonic research.

Taylor-Hammond Research Scholarship

Tenure & Stipend: $20,000 x 1 year
Eligible Applicants: Fellows of the College of less than five years standing or Members of the College seeking to qualify for Fellowship of the RANZCOG who are normally resident in Australia or New Zealand
Area of Research: Clinical or basic research in women's health

Luke Proposch Perinatal Research Scholarship

Tenure & Stipend: $20,000 x 1 year
Eligible Applicants: Graduates in medicine or science
Area of Research: Perinatal medicine

Berseford Buttery Travel Grant

Tenure & Stipend: $3,000. There is no requirement as to a period of tenure for the overseas visit.
Eligible Applicants: Medical graduates who are committed to a career providing obstetrical and/or gynaecological ultrasound services in Australia or New Zealand, and who are normally resident in Australia or New Zealand
Area of Research: Travel to any country for the purpose of making a particular study of any scientific, research or clinical subject relating to the practice of obstetrical or gynaecological ultrasound. It shall not be awarded for the purpose of assisting the applicant to gain a postgraduate degree.

Brown Craig Travel Fellowship

Tenure & Stipend: $2,000. The period of study abroad should generally be not less than four weeks, and not longer than twelve months.
Eligible Applicants: Fellows of the College of less than five years standing or Members of the College seeking to qualify for Fellowship of the RANZCOG who are normally resident in Australia or New Zealand
Area of Research: The Fellowship shall be in the form of a grant to assist the successful applicant:

  • to present a scientific paper at the RANZCOG ASM, or another relevant interstate or international scientific meeting; OR
  • to visit any country outside Australia or New Zealand for the purpose of making a particular study of any scientific, research or clinical subject relating to the practice of obstetrics or gynaecology. It shall not be awarded for the purpose of assisting the applicant to gain a postgraduate degree.
