What is the DRANZCOG / DRANZCOG Advanced?
DRANZCOG
The Diploma of the RANZCOG (DRANZCOG) is a six-month training program
for general practitioners who require further training in women's
reproductive health.
Specifically, the aims of the DRANZCOG is to offer training to
GPs who wish to:
- Provide shared ante- and postnatal care with specialist obstetricians,
GP obstetricians or a specialist hospital
- Provide office gynaecology
- Provide family planning
- Manage the antenatal care fo low to moderate risk patients
- Perform normal deliveries and assisted deliveries
- Perform basic gynaecological procedures
DRANZCOG Advanced
The Advanced Diploma (DRANZCOG Advanced) is a minimum 12-month
training program for general practitioners who would like additional
training and experience in this area.
Specifically, the aims of the DRANZCOG Advanced is to offer extended
training to GPs who wish to:
- Provide all of the above listed DRANZCOG aims
- Manage complicated labours when they arise
- Perform LUSCS (Elective and Emergency) safely and confidently
- Provide support for GP obstetricians when specialist obstetricians
are unavailable
- Perform laparotomies in emergency gynaecological situations
- In special circumstances, be able to perform laparoscopies and/or
colposcopies
A time-limited qualification
The DRANZCOG is granted for three years and in the first instance
will be adjusted to align with the period of the RACGP QA &CE
program.
Recertification occurs every three years thereafter, contingent
on the Diplomate accruing a minimum of 30 points in the RACGP QA&CE
program for activities related to Women's Reproductive Health.
The DRANZCOG is a time-limited qualification. Recertification is
based on participation in the RACGP QA & CE program. Diplomates
who are not Vocationally Registered and do not have their ongoing
CME administered by the RACGP, must provide evidence of ongoing
CME in the area of Women's Reproductive Health to RANZCOG More
Requirements
Training for the DRANZCOG is for a minumum of six months
and for the DRANZCOG Advanced a minumum of twelve months.
Those wishing to undertake the DRANZCOG / DRANZCOG Advanced must
hold a primary degree in Medicine and Surgery issued by a medical
school listed in the WHO Publication World Directory of Medical
Schools or other publications approved by the Australian Medical
Council (AMC.)
Joint Consultative Committee on Obstetrics
Both programs are offered by the Joint Consultative
Committee on Obstetrics (JCCO) a tripartite committee comprising
representatives from RANZCOG, the Royal Australian College of General
Pracitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote
Medicine (ACRRM). The co-ordination of the JCCO is the responsiblity
of the JCCO Secretariat which is based at the RACGP.
The administration of the DRANZCOG and DRANZCOG Advanced training
programs - including trainee registration and examinations - are
the responsiblity of the RANZCOG.
