Types of education
The FSEP has several programs to suit the needs and resources of all Australian and New Zealand medical institutions offering intrapartum and antenatal care.
The full program
The full program runs for 7 hours and forms a solid foundation
of knowledge for all medical and midwifery professionals. The full
program includes discussion time and comprehensively covers the
following material:
- Fetal physiology
- The normal CTG
- The abnormal CTG
- Interpretation
- Management
- Maternal monitoring
- The importance of the complete clinical picture
- Case-study workshop
This content has been carefully structured to cumulatively build
understanding. Participants in the full program also complete post
educational assessments.
The refresher program
We have designed a time efficient refresher program as an update
for professionals who have previously completed the full program,
and are looking to brush up their knowledge six to twelve months
later. The refresher program runs for 4 hours and revises the fundamental
concepts of the full program, expands on CTG interpretation and
is an opportunity for additional case-study discussion.
The university program
The FSEP is a curriculum component of several midwifery undergraduate
and postgraduate midwifery courses in Australian universities. Our
university program runs for 3 1/2 hours. It introduces the CTG and
fetal surveillance, ensuring students develop a strong understanding
of fetal monitoring before entering the workforce.
Videoconferencing
The FSEP now offers the refresher program via videoconference. This
is a great way for small rural hospitals to access the FSEP. For
