Educational content
The FSEP's educational content is of the highest clinical integrity following extensive research, collaboration with leaders in maternal fetal medicine and support from RANZCOG.
The FSEP teaches participants to understand the physiology of the fetus and how this affects the CTG trace, rather than to rely on pattern recognition which has proved to be less than satisfactory. By understanding the physiology of the fetus, the practitioner can recognize and interpret each component of the CTG including:
- Baseline
- Variability
- Reactivity
The practitioner then has a solid base for management and skills for deconstructing the most concerning traces.
To provide a comprehensive understanding of fetal surveillance, FSEP education sessions also cover:
- The normal CTG
- The abnormal CTG
- Interpretation and management
- Fetal blood sampling
- Lactate sampling
- Maternal monitoring
- The complete clinical picture
Participants also complete testing after the education.
All FSEP educational content incorporates the RANZCOG Intrapartum Fetal Surveillance Clinical Guidelines more.
Our presenters tailor the content, pace and discussion of each program to meet the audience's specific needs. All content is structured to cumulatively build on knowledge so participants do not feel overwhelmed. Program notes are also provided so participants have a lasting reference and can review information at a later date. FSEP staff are happy to answer any questions participants may still have after their session – we are only a phone call away.
