Practice Review and Clinical Risk Management (PR&CRM)
What is PR&CRM?
- ‘Practice Review’ includes clinical audit and quality
assurance activities aimed at improving one's own practice
- ‘Clinical risk management’ refers to measures to
improve safe practice and/or minimise clinical harm
Practice Review & Clinical Risk Management points are available
for Fellow's participating in the following activities:
- Preparing PR&CRM activities (Note: delivering
lectures will attract educator activity points)
- Attending PR&CRM sessions (see the Meeting
and Conferences List for available activities)
PR&CRM Sessions
(a) A PR or CRM session is defined as:
- A meeting/workshop which teaches or demonstrates how to undertake
practice review, or clinical risk management in your own practice
(eg. courses conducted by Cognitive Institute, ALSO)
- The time spent undertaking practice review. That is, reviewing
the processes or outcomes of one’s own practice or a clinic
in which one works, a delivery suite, or some other O & G
clinical service with an aim to improve, or reduce clinical risk
(b) The following activities do not
attract PR&CRM points:
- Sitting on Medical Boards
- Sitting on Medical Advisory Committees
- Provision of medico legal reports
However, if a Fellow learns something whilst engaging in one
of the above activities and wishes to incorporate this into
their practice, they can use the Practice
Review Worksheet ( 154KB)
to earn PR&CRM points, which follows the Quality
Cycle ( 127KB).
How many points do I need in this category?
There is a minimum requirement of 25 points in the PR&CRM category
over a Fellow's three-year CPD period. As there is no maximum, you
can, if you wish, claim all your 150 CPD points in the PR&CRM
category.
The Quality Cycle Framework
College staff often receive calls from Fellows who are concerned
that they don't have enough Practice Review and Clinical Risk Management
points.
Frequently these Fellows have been reviewing and improving their
skills/knowledge throughout the year and have not realised that
they are eligible to claim points in this category.
By placing your activities in the quality
cycle framework ( 127KB)
and using a Practice
Review Worksheet (
227 KB) , you can acknowledge what you have learnt, and how it has
improved your clinical outcomes.
Fellows may claim 5 PR&CRM points towards their CPD requirements
for each aspect of their practice they review using the Practice
Review Worksheet.
