CPD Online Pilot Project
Continuing Professional Development Online
The CPD Online Pilot Project is a concurrent trial of two improvements to current CPD practice. These are:
- the online planning and management of CPD activities
- the alignment of existing CPD and PR&CRM activities with the RANZCOG Curriculum
The alignment of activities with the RANZCOG Curriculum ensures an appropriate breadth of professional development over a Fellow’s working life. It marks a shift from the current division of activities according to type to a much stronger focus on the competency domains that underpin the curriculum and drive contemporary practice.
Under the new model being trialed, Fellows will be required to complete activities across each of the following three strands:
Clinical abilities
Academic abilities
Professional values and responsibilities
In the twelve month trial period, participants will be required to complete 50 hours of CPD activity with a minimum of 8 hours in PR&CRM (currently points, not hours). They will also need to ensure that a minimum of 5 hours activity is completed in each of the three strands. The three strands are further divided into components as shown below:
| Strand |
Component |
| Clinical abilities |
Medical expertise
|
| |
Effective communication |
| Academic abilities |
Research |
| |
Education & training |
| Professional values & responsibilities |
Practice review & risk management |
| |
Health advocacy |
| |
Relationships & accountability |
The twelve month involvement in the trial contributes on a pro-rata basis to current CPD requirements. The maximum number of hours obtained in meetings attendance (25 per year) and self-education activities (25 per year) continue to apply. The maximum hours in educator activities will no longer apply.
