Outreach Registrar
Alice Springs Hospital

Start date: 1 January 2009

End date: 31 December 2009

RANZCOG have approved this Alice Springs based position for post-MRANZCOG level 5 or 6 registrar. The position involves about 80 days a year visiting remote communities up to 700km from Alice Springs, and is aimed at trainees with an interest in Indigenous health. Although fully supervised it is expected that the trainee will have completed colposcopy and ultrasound modules, and be confident enough to undertake these and other examinations in very limited clinic facilities.

The ability to travel in small aircraft and 4WD is essential, as is the ability to be away from home for up to 4 days at a time.

The other aspect of the job is general O&G work at Alice Springs Hospital, including on-call cover, where 60% of confinements are to Indigenous women, many complicated by diabetes, rheumatic heart disease and renal disease.

Both the O&G Department and the Hospital are small and friendly. The town is remarkably well serviced and set in a stunning landscape with many sporting and outdoor pursuits available.
