The College Collection
College Collection
College House provides a perfect setting for the College Collection,
which includes works of art, antique furniture, decorative art,
historical artefacts and College regalia.
The Collection has been donated by College members or purchased
following fundraising appeals. Recent items have been purchased
from the Friends of the College Collection funds. The College is
grateful for the support of members and Friends and donations are
welcome.
Furniture and building features
The furniture in the College Collection has been donated or purchased
over the years since the College headquarters were first established
at Old College House, 8 La Trobe Street, Melbourne in 1954.
At the time of the purchase of the present College House in 1981,
a College House and Heritage Appeal was launched to raise funds
for College development which included the cost of purchasing the
new House and the refurbishing and furnishing. The response to the
Appeal was considerable and it enabled the purchase of some valuable
and elegant antiques in keeping with the period of the house.
Special features of the building are the stained glass windows
and the magnificent jarrah lined Frank Forster Library with matching
jarrah tables and chairs.
Since the initial furnishing many generous donations have continued
to be made by Fellows and Friends to enhance the Collection and
these are on display throughout the building.
